Learner as Hero: AI, Motivation & Lifelong Learning

Digital Mythology Podcast

Progress can be what keeps people moving.

That idea sits at the heart of the latest Digital Mythology Podcast episode, Learner as Hero: AI, Motivation & Lifelong Learning, where our CIO, Myles Thies, joins Declan Goodman to talk about AI, motivation and what helps learners keep going.

It is a conversation that looks at learning through a very human lens. We often talk about learning in terms of content, platforms, modules and completion rates. But for the learner, the journey is much more personal. It is about finding the confidence to start, staying motivated when progress feels slow, and getting enough feedback along the way to know that the effort is making a difference.

When the finish line still feels a long way away, seeing progress can be what keeps people going.

That is especially important in a world where learning is becoming more constant. AI is changing how people access information, but access to knowledge is not the same as learning. Learners still need context, judgement, support and lived experience to turn information into something useful.

Access to knowledge is not the same as learning.

This is one of the ideas Myles explores in the episode. AI can make knowledge easier to access, but wisdom still comes from how people apply, question and build on that knowledge. The technology may be new, but the human need is ancient.

The episode brings this to life through stories from Cú Chulainn and Scáthach, to Ubuntu, to Athena and wisdom in the age of AI. These ancient ideas help us understand a very modern challenge: how do we help people keep learning when the world keeps changing?

Helping progress turn into completion.

At alulu, this is exactly the challenge we care about. Learning is not only about access to content. It is about helping people keep going long enough for learning to turn into confidence, behaviour change and completion.

Because learners are not just moving through content. They are on a journey. And sometimes, what keeps them moving is knowing that the progress they are making matters. Watch the full episode below:
